Why doesn’t Obi-wan let Anakin find his mother? Why does he just tell him that “dreams pass in time”?
I know that the Jedi are not suppose to have attachments but she is suffering. Aren’t the Jedi suppose to be the “guardians of peace and Justice” in the Republic. How is it justice to let someone be tortured to death?
Even if the council didn’t want to send Anakin because of his attachment surely they could of gotten some other Jedi to go check up on her.
What is the point of having a class of superhuman warriors if they don’t bother saving people.
So Obi-wan doesn’t do anything about Anakins mother & look what happens – Anakin goes there himself & slaughters the entire village. It is his first step towards the darkside. This could have been prevented if the Jedi had done something sooner.

♥Icon Love♥

You know how much Obi-Wan was a yes man for the Council, so I suspect that once Anakin started having these dreams about his mother, Obi-Wan may have asked members of the Council what they thought of them, and of course they told him to dismiss them. "Dreams pass in time," may have been Obi-Wan simply repeating what was said to him. He looked a little uncomfortable to talk about the subject with Anakin.

The reason the Council didn't send anyone to check up on Shmi was because they felt that the needs of the many (the Republic, or at least the politicians who purportedly ran it) outweighed the needs of the few (Shmi and the "little folk").

The Council and the Jedi in general had lost their way. They had forgotten what it meant to be a Jedi. Instead of being the voice for the struggling few, they became the strong arm for the sycophants who ran the Republic, all in the belief that they were somehow keeping balance overall. Jedi like Qui-Gon and Count Dooku knew this, but both of them went about reforming the Jedi the wrong way.

In the end, pride destroyed the Jedi.

I second the icon love.

Oh I blame Obi-Wan for a mess of things. You've touched upon a good one there, though.

Bearded Ani doesn't look too bad...

Anyway, that darn Jedi Prime Directive didn't do them much good in the end. I like the Skywalker way of putting people first.
